Sophya Ramirez

Sophya is a Colombian singer-songwriter with a career spanning over 15 years. She has composed and arranged numerous songs that blend her personal life experiences with Latin American rhythms, harmonies influenced by her studies in jazz, and authentic melodic designs. These elements, infused with her creative inspiration, give rise to fresh, soul-enriching songs.

Her journey in music began at the age of 7 through the Batuta Santander Foundation in Bucaramanga, Colombia, where her talent was first discovered, sparking a lifelong love for music. At 12, she chose the transverse flute as her main instrument and soon joined the Batuta Departmental Orchestra, traveling to various national destinations.

In 2007, she met her teacher and mentor Luz Helena Peñaranda. Under her guidance, Sophya joined the Coral Comfenalco Santander, performing at international festivals in Mexico, Spain, Peru, Italy, and China. She participated in prestigious competitions, achieving notable recognition and singing alongside high-level choirs from around the world.

In 2012, she graduated from the Aula Moderna de Música y Sonido as a Contemporary Music and Jazz singer. That same year, she earned a scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Ecuador in collaboration with the University of San Francisco de Quito.

By 2017, Sophya had graduated with honors as a licensed teacher in Modern Music with a minor in Music Production. In 2018, she specialized as a Waldorf teacher, and in 2019 and 2020, she explored Raga Singing (Indian Classical Music) under the guidance of Professors Shabda Khan and Michael Harrison.

Sophya is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Colombian Musics at  Universidad del Bosque in Bogotá, Colombia.

For more than a decade, teaching has been an integral part of her journey. Her passion for music as a tool for self-healing inspires her to share innovative approaches with students of all ages, encouraging them to explore the vast possibilities that music offers.

Sophya is a vessel for countless songs that she continues to share with the world. Her debut album, Canto a Tierra, was recorded after winning First Place in the Berklee International Original Song Contest in 2015 with her song Mientras Tanto. A few years later, her song Última Muerte Lenta was selected to be recorded and produced by American producers Ian Kagey and Stephen Webber.

In 2022, she released her second album, Medicine Woman, which integrates various aspects of her spiritual journey and her deep connection with nature.

In 2025, she will release her upcoming album, En Vivo, featuring recordings from her concerts between 2015 and 2019. The album presents her original songs as they were performed—raw, unfiltered, and unproduced—embracing the “imperfections” and capturing a brave and vulnerable side of her artistry.

Under the artist name Almaconvoz, Sophya’s songs have earned her international recognition as a composer of original and vibrant ideas, committed to promoting values of harmonious living and unity across cultures. The medicine of her music creates spaces of joy, peace, and consciousness, aiming to reconnect listeners with the essence of existence.
